Driving Support for Men’s Health this Movember.
IT’S EASIER TO OPEN UP SHOULDER TO SHOULDER.
This year, we’re partnering with Movember to help Australian men talk about their health. Chatting about health can be awkward, especially when you’re face to face with a friend or family member. To make things easier, why not go for a drive and have a conversation shoulder to shoulder? You don’t need to be an expert, you don’t need to give a solution. The simple act of listening and giving your time can be life-saving.
TALKING ABOUT PHYSICAL HEALTH.
A conversation about men’s health can be difficult, yet all you need is a moment to start. Next time you’re driving, try opening up to the person beside you with some of the below questions:
Have you ever had your prostate checked?
When was your last self-examination?
Have you ever done one?
What feels ‘normal’ down there?
Testicular and prostate cancer are the most common cancers amongst men aged 18-39, and when detected early, the outcome can be positive with a 95% chance of survival. This Movember, try talking about your physical health on a drive - it’s surprisingly easier.
TALKING ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH.
In Australia, 1 in 2 men will experience a mental health problem but a simple conversation could make a difference. Problem is, if you are feeling anxious or depressed, the thought of opening might be daunting. Fortunately, research has shown that men are more likely to open up when doing a task in tandem. That’s why we suggest going for a drive with a mate this Movember and start a conversation that could save a life.
